2022 has had its challenges but thankfully also its rewards and as the year draws to a close, it’s good to reflect on the past year.  We have been, and continue to be, involved with a number of exciting and varied projects taking us all around the UK, working with some fantastic clients.  Looking forward to Christmas and the New Year, we have decided to forego some of the usual festivities and have instead this year supported the Tearfund Christmas Appeal.

 We hope you will have a peaceful end to the year and wish you every success and happiness for 2023.

We have recently undertaken a number of independent reviews of ground gas risk assessments, several of which were demonstrated as being overly conservative.  On behalf of our clients, we were able to downgrade the recommended gas protection measures on residential and industrial/commercial developments, helping them realise savings on their development programme and costs.

Well, the last twelve months went quickly but they were a great twelve months!  Thank you to family, friends, clients and colleagues for your support throughout.

Following a short break, work started in June 2021 and in that time we have helped secure planning on a number of sites, reassessed ground gas risks, addressed infiltration drainage constraints, investigated several urban developments, undertaken risk assessments, provided remediation strategies, carried out third party appraisals, sponsored the ICE SW Awards drinks reception, and will shortly be taking time to celebrate our first year.  We're very much looking forward to the next twelve months!

Our look at the Global Goals over the last few days has been a bit of an eye opener and also an encouragement.  Particularly concerning is the impact Covid-19 has had on issues such as poverty and hunger. It has also further highlighted the importance of hygiene and sanitation. Worldwide, two out of five people do not have a basic hand-washing facility.

As engineers, we can help change this.

One of our commitments towards SDG 6 will be to help provide hand washing stations for families overseas, whilst additional water saving measures will be implemented at home and in the work environment.

In December, we will be looking at one of the SDGs each day and considering how we as a company and as individuals can help make a difference, reviewing our actions over the last six months and considering how we can improve over the next six.

Already a week ago!  What a great night and congratulations to the winners and all those that entered and made it onto the shortlist.  There are some amazing and diverse projects in the South West, with plenty of opportunity to demonstrate the value civil engineers can bring to the community and environment.  And we were more than happy to provide a few glasses of fizz for those attending on the night!  Looking forward to next year already.

The ICE South West Civil Engineering Awards will be held in Bristol on 30th September, hosted this year by TV's Rob Bell.  The Awards will recognise the region's best civil engineering projects completed last year and also emerging talent, with Graduate and Apprentice of the Year being selected.  We are pleased to be able to support ICE SW at the Awards Ceremony, to be held at the Bristol Marriot Royal Hotel.

June 1st sees the official launch of a new engineering consultancy, advising on ground related issues and development of land.  Founding Director, Ian, has 25 years of experience in the industry working on a variety of residential, commercial and infrastructure projects across the UK.  We work on private residential projects, mixed-use developments and general construction schemes.
